A Case Report of TPN Application

Abstract

|
The Total Parenteral Nutrition(TPN) plays an important role in the medical treatment of the patient. TPN therapy should be adjusted according to the patients state as the medical treatment progresses. We studied two cases of TPN therapy in order to find out how individualized TPN therapy affects the clinical results. One TPN therapy was applied to a AML patient how was suffering from nausea and vomiting during chemotherapy. Another was applied to neonate who was suffering from dehydration and metabolic acidosis due to severe diarrhea. The TPN therapy helped the AML patient maintain appropriate calories the treatment including chemotherapy could continue. Mouth feeding was also possible by the individualized TPN. The 22-day-old neonate who lost weight from 4.2㎏ to 3.6㎏ regained up to 3.75㎏ by the TPN therapy
